A photographic portrait of Russian avant-garde artist and fashion designer Elena Khudiakova (1957–2015), photographed by Grayson Perry in 1989. According to James Birch, the photograph was taken shortly before the fashion show he staged for Khudiakova at his Dean Street gallery in London, Birch & Conran, in October 1989. Birch, an influential figure in the London art scene and an early champion of Perry's work, also organised Francis Bacon's historic Moscow exhibition in 1988.

‘Patti Smith travelled to Mexico City to speak and perform at La Casa Azul, the former home of the artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. While visiting the property, which now serves as a museum, Smith took several black-and-white Polaroid photographs of objects she encountered: a pair of crutches that belonged to Kahlo; her worn corset; a white coverlet with crocheted trim, dangling from a wooden bed frame’

An extraordinary large-scale photograph from Mitra Tabrizian's Beyond the Limits series (2000–2001), in which carefully constructed, cinematic tableaux explore alienation, psychological tension and the unsettling contradictions of contemporary life.
Born in Tehran, Mitra Tabrizian is an internationally recognised photographer and filmmaker whose work examines social, political and cultural identity. Her influential Beyond the Limits series was the subject of a monograph published by Steidl in 2004, featuring contributions from leading cultural theorists including Stuart Hall and Homi K. Bhabha.
Tabrizian was the subject of a solo exhibition at Tate Britain in 2008, and her work is represented in major international museum collections. In 2026, the National Portrait Gallery, London, acquired her photograph Woman, Life, Freedom (2025), further recognising her contribution to contemporary British photography.
